At least 15 people have been confirmed dead after a shooting in a bar within Soweto, South Africa!
According to CNN, other people have been injured amid the chaos. Police reports stated that 23 people were shot in total; 12 were confirmed dead on the scene and 11 were rushed to nearby hospitals. Two additional people later died due to their injuries.
There were a group of men described as armed and dangerous with rifles and 9 millimeter handguns who arrived at the bar and randomly opened fire. The Gauteng Police stated the incident happened around midnight at the Nomzamo settlement near Johannesburg.
“It’s a bad scene. When you see the bodies [that] are piled up, you can see that every one of those people [was] struggling to get out of the tavern,” Gauteng Police Commissioner Elias Mawela told South African news channel ENCA.
The suspects fled the scene and are still at large; police are calling for witnesses to come forth. There is no motive as to why the people were targeted.
