In Health News – “Love that Chicken From Popeyes” fast-food chain Popeyes, reports that they are planning to transition their current chicken recipe to a new recipe that is “free of the controversial ingredient MSG” by the year 2025!
The Louisiana chain Popeyes, has been in business since 1972, and has been a major staple for consumers for its crispy, seasoned chicken. However their signature items contain MSG in them.
According to the Mayo Clinic, MSG, short for – Monosodium Glutamate, is a flavor enhancer added to restaurant foods, canned foods, deli meats and other foods. The additive has been used for manyyears and can cause headaches, dizziness, chest pain, facial pressure or tightness, fluttering heartbeats, nausea, and other complex symptoms to the body. The U.S Food and Drug administration recognizes MSG as safe.
Initially the popular food chain was supposed to adjust the ingredients by the year 2022. Last March, Popeyes made claims that their goal was to stop using all artificial preservatives and colors from the fried chicken and to replace them with sustainably better ingredients. They also claimed to have a goal to have poultry that is antibiotic free.
Reports found that nothing has changed yet. With goals that haven’t been met, Popeyes reported to Bloomberg that the recipe will remain for now and that they will get the ball rolling with MSG free chicken recipes.
With shortages and supply chain issues, Popeyes will have to come with a solution soon enough to meet their 2025 goal.
