Showtime is continuing the narrative of Rick Famuyiwa’s dramedy film, The Wood, through a new series. The television network intends to release it’s take on The Wood sometime soon. But, for now, the cast list has been unveiled!
According to Vibe, Richard T. Jones and Tamala Jones are picking things off from their previous roles. Likewise, the “Norf Norf” rap extraordinaire known as Vince Staples is starring alongside Xavier Mills, Karen Obilom, Melvin Gregg, and Essence Renae.

The Wrap reports that “The Wood” will take an in-depth look at three young black males’ lives as they navigate through relationships and friendships. The City Of Champions, as their community calls them, eventually grow up and are faced with dealing with fatherhood, amongst other life events. Because of this, the trio wonders if their relationship dynamic is shifting.
This new take on The Wood takes admiration from the movie stupendously. In other words, per The Wrap, “this romantic comedy showcases the humor and heart of young Black men and women.”
The 1999 film first focuses on Taye Digg’s character’s dilemma during his wedding day. Shortly after, his, Omar Epps, Richard T. Jones’ brotherhood is analyzed. Following its release, The Wood amassed a whopping $25 million at the box office. Their initial budget was $6 million. In terms of executive producing, Justin Hillian, Rick Famuyiwa, David Gale, and Van Toffler take the title.
Paramount Television Pictures will lead the production.

After the news of “The Wood” went haywire, a few Twitter users added their two cents.
“OK OK THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT WHOOP~WHOOP!!!,” Lakeshia Greene proclaimed.
One person named Case couldn’t of said it better when he tweeted: “The Wood was top 1 for me. No movie I’ve ever seen blended all the elements of coming of age/hood shit/love story/homie movie like that since. The wood was special.”
