Student debts are a thing of the past for Miriam Olajide. The Spelman College scholar recently won $22,000 while participating in Wheel of Fortune!

The popular game show takes admiration from hangman. To win cash and other special prizes, contestants must guess the letters to various word puzzles. Wheel of Fortune made its debut during the 1970s. There are also two spin-off shows in honor of Wheel of Fortune: Wheel 2000 and Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.

The third-year health sciences major decided to take a leap of faith on Wheel of Fortune after seeing she could audition virtually.

“I began my journey to appear on Wheel of Fortune in my first year of college. I was watching the show and saw an advertisement for the chance to audition virtually from home. Since I had been a longtime fan of the show, I decided to give it a try.

I submitted an ‘about me’ video on the website, and a year and a half later, they contacted me for a virtual audition. I was ecstatic that I was one step closer to possibly going on one of my favorite game shows. I completed the audition and waited to see if I was picked.”

The Wheel of Fortune team called three weeks later to tell her that she’s eligible to play on their America’s Game V segment. Unveiling that this opportunity was exciting, she further expresses what her time was like on set (and in general). The college student even got to see what it takes to make the game’s unique wheel.

“I was allowed to travel to Los Angeles, California, and my experience on Wheel of Fortune was nothing but amazing!,” she said. “All the college contestants, as well as the ones that I competed against, were really nice and we all bonded over our love of the show.”
