A family has been spent years searching for answers of the whereabouts of their loved one only to find out her body was at a local morgue for months and then cremated!

The body of 31 year old Natassia Meadows was found lifeless in October 2019, reports Blavity. She died of an apparent drug overdose according to the autopsy report, and was brought to the Wayne County Morgue where she stayed for 7 months and was quietly cremated, without her family’s consent.

Natasha’s family searched feverishly for her, posting on social media as well, to no avail. Her mother, godmother Dawn Snider, and police, contacted the morgue to give details of her goddaughter without getting answers. Snider pressed on with calls and was told repeatedly by the morgue she was not there.

Days after, an inspector general called the family to discuss a separate issue and was told Meadows was missing. The morgue called and delivered the news; that not only had their missing loved one been there the whole time, they cremated her as well.

The family is reeling after Wayne County claimed it was an accident. Commissioner Ray Basham is launching an investigation to find out if they have similar cases like this.

Marilyn Lewis, the Mother stated “she hopes her story will help her family find justice, and that she doesn’t want another family to go through the same ordeal.
