2019 body cam captured incident has resurfaced on Tiktok involving an officer groping a Black woman during a tragic stop!

Within the now viral video clip the officer in training identified as Tyler Gelnett is seen conducting a body search of Kali Coates. In most cases a woman officer would have to be present to conduct such actions however in certain states male officers are allowed to do so with specific guidelines and procedures set in place. Male officers are trained to conduct body searches on woman by using the back of their hands not their palms.

As the video proceeds Kali fully cooperates in allowing officer Gelnett to conduct the body search as another officer supervises him. However the entire ordeal shifted as the officer inappropriately touches her with palms faced towards her body.

The overseeing officer immediately chimes in stopping him and apologizes to the woman. He explains to Kali and her boyfriend who is also in the vehicle that officer Gelnett is in training, that the didn’t follow protocol and that the entire ordeal is recorded.

Kali went on to sure the Louisville Police Department in which she was later payed $50,000 in 2020 following the incident. Officer Gelnett remained on the force and continued to work as a police officer that is in until later that year in November he was charged with official misconduct and drug trafficking for allegedly seizing marijuana while handling multiple cases. According to the Daily Dot the officer was given the confiscated marijuana to a woman he was in a relationship with.

Police reports read that fellow officers have come toward in saying that Gelnett knowingly took marijuana obtained in traffic stops/investigations between December 1, 2019 and April 30, 2020. The woman’s name was never shared with the public.
