Queen Latifah is giving back to her original stomping grounds of Newark , New Jersey in a major way as she has taken lead on a new housing development project!
The project is set to provide affordable housing to community members, reports Pix 11.
Queen Latifah attended the official groundbreaking ceremony earlier this week at 650 Springfield, Avenue. The location is confirmed as being the new home of the RISE LIVING development.
“What’s always been important to me was that I could build something in this city I can live in,” says Queen Latifah at the live event. “ That Queen Latifah can move in, not Dana. Dana could live anywhere. If you know Dana, you know Dana could roll.”
Sources confirm that the development will consist of a total of 76 housing units alongside 1900 square feet of ground floor space. It has been stated that the space is designated for nonprofit organizations.
According to BET news, the newly developed area is in partnership with Life Asserts Development, Gonsosa and the co-founded corporation of Blue Sugar.
”Newark is ours. Newark is yours and I don’t want people to think they can’t move in their own communities,” said the Emmy award winning actress. “
