Cousins!

One thing for sure is we stan a Black queen! And for “Abbott Elementary,” star and creator Quinta Brunson, we are in complete awe of her Black girl magic!

The former castmate of “A Black Lady Sketch Show” might be a funny comedian, but she is also a giver. Reportedly, the actress redirected some of the show’s marketing money to help real-life teachers to buy school supplies.

According to Today, Brunson revealed during an episode of NPR’s “Fresh Air,” saying, “We chose to put the marketing money toward supplies for teachers.”

If you haven’t watched the hilarious show, Brunson, 32, plays a second-grade teacher at an under-resourced, predominantly Black School in Philadelphia.

What inspired Brunson to create “Abbott Elementary,” was her mom, who has been a teacher for 40 years at a school that lacked proper resources.

“Despite it getting harder, despite teachers not having all the support they need, despite kids growing even more unruly than they’ve been in recent time … she still loved the job,” the actor and writer said of her mother.

But Brunson named the show after her supportive 6th-grade teacher, Ms. Abott. Ms. Abbott became a source of comfort for Brunson when she moved to her school after spending five years at the same school her mom taught.

“I was scared to go into the real world or what I looked at as the real world at the time, and (Ms. Abbott) just took me under her wing,” she recalled.

Brunson continues, “She was an incredible teacher who put her all into it, making sure that her students felt special and were ready for the world.”

If you have not watched “Abbott Elementary,” I suggest you do! It is hilarious. And it reminds me of all the teachers I came across as a kid. Thank you, Quinta, for creating a great show and making a difference! You can tune in every every tuesday 9PM EST ON ABC OR THE FOLLOWING DAY ON huLU!
