Do you remember seeing the photo of a man holding Pelosi’s podium during the Jan. 6 riots? Well the star behind that wide spreaded photo is set to serve jail time for the incident!
According to ABC News, Adam Johnson, a Florida man who went viral for posing with Nancy Pelosi’s podium during the U.S. Capitol riot, was sentenced to more than two months in prison.
Arguing that his actions “illustrate his sense of entitlement and privilege,” prosecutors say Johnson bragged that he “broke the internet” and was “finally famous.” Writing in a court filing, a prosecutor said, “The now-viral podium photo portrays Johnson as confident, arguably gleeful, while converting government property to his own use during an unlawful siege.”
Besides being sentenced to 75 days in prison, Johnson will have to follow one year of supervised release, pay a fine of $5,000, and perform 200 hours of community service. Two days after the riot, Johnson was arrested and pleaded guilty in November to a charge of entering and remaining in a restricted building or ground, a misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of one year in prison.
And if you think what he did was a stupid-foolish idea, then Johnson feels very much so the same. Johnson tells the U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton (who sentenced Johnson) posing with Pelosi’s podium was a “very stupid idea.” Johnson also adds, “I bear no ill will toward her or her office at all.”
Johnson, who’s a stay-at-home father, is married to a medical doctor. According to prosecutors, Johnson has not had work in the past 11 years and argued the couple could afford to hire somebody to care for their five children in his absence.
There is no date yet. But Johnson will report to prison when it is determined.
