Both New York State and City residents are currently preparing themselves for more than the holiday season following an extremely alarming uprise in COVID cases recently!
Large gathering are being prohibited with talks of potential social distancing orders being set in to place. From Broadway performances and office parties being cancelled to even college finals being moved to online.
According to The NY Times, Coronavirus cases are spiking again in New York City, and it’s exceeding beyond last winter’s numbers. It has been indicated that the Delta variant remains dominant but the Omicron is becoming a force to reckon with.
In this past week nearly 12 restaurants and bars have temporarily shut down. The reported number of new Covid cases in NYC has risen to an average of 3,554 a day, an increase of 135% from the average two weeks ago, according to the official database.
Sources confirm the U.S is reporting more than 120,000 new cases per day on average— a 40% increase from two weeks ago, and 70% more than when cases stopped falling in early November.
NBC news reports lines are wrapped around the corner at testing with wait times over an hour+. On Friday, 10,286 positive cases were reported confirmed as an additional 20% up from the previous day, and 100% from two days earlier
. It’s also the highest reported testing day for the city since the beginning of the pandemic, and the first time the city saw more than 10,000 cases in a single day.
