Cousins!
Latosha Clemons chased and achieved her dream of becoming a firefighter, never imagining the impact her career would make within history!
Her biggest fire to extinguish to date would be her lawsuit against Boynton Beach, Florida, for defaming her image by replacing hers with a white face.
The city doubled up on their history-erasing tactics, with a combo special and also replaced retired African American fire chief Glenn Joseph’s image with a white face as well, reports Complex.
Debby Coles-Dobay, the city’s former arts manager, admitted to feeling pressured to play race swap with the images. She was promptly fired and fire chief was demoted after the mural unveiling, in June of 2020.
Clemons accuses the city of defamation and negligence as a result of their brazen move. She is not taking this lying down either. I was like ‘Wow, why did this happen,” Clemons told WPTV News. “I was hurt, I was disappointed, and then I was outraged.”
The former deputy fire chief of Boynton Beach added “it’s a reflection of the community itself and all those young girls; who can walk by that station, look at that mural, and their hopes and dreams are shattered by the defacing of that.”
The sabotage is real.
