With millions of patients testing positive of the #Coronavirus pandemic from various demographics, experts are currently gathering data to potentially pinpoint specific conditions that are identifying certain individuals as being more at risk of the disease as oppose to others!

According to Yahoo News, many Americans that have died from the disease either suffer from obesity or are avid marijuana smokers. Sources have confirmed that the American Lung Association experts have issued reports indicating that marijuana smokers are considered to be at higher risk of contracting the virus.

“What happens to your airways when you smoke cannabis is that it causes some degree of inflammation, very similar to bronchitis, very similar to the type of inflammation that cigarette smoking can cause,” states Pulmonologist Albert Rizzo, MD, of the American Lung Association to local news on Thursday. “Now you have some airway inflammation and you get an infection on top of it. So, yes, your chance of getting more complications is there.

It has also been indicated that smokers of any sort are potentially at risk of easily contracting the virus. Experts state that smoking increase the severity of respiratory symptoms directly linked to COVID-19.

Experts from the Marijuana Policy Project have advised patients whose health depend on medicinal marijuana as well as avid adult smokers to, “consider using non-smoked products that do not impact lung function such as edibles, pills, tinctures and salve.”
