The Showtime network has officially issued a television pilot order for the romantic-comedy The Wood !
The network made the official announcement on August 24th at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour reports Deadline .
There has been no details forwarded at this time of the series official casting at this time. However it has been indicated that the show will portray the journey of characters born and raised within the gentrifying area of Inglewood, diving deep into their personal and professional lives. The series will take place in a modern day era amidst the era of online dating and social media.
“With a knowing nod back to the characters of the 1999 film on which it is based, this romantic comedy showcases the humor and heart of young Black men and women trying to navigate life, love and likes on the ’Gram.”
The classic film was originally released in 1999 staring Omar Epps, Taye Diggs, Richard T. Jones, Sanaa Lathan and LisaRaye McCoy.
The Wood serves as a telling of age story about three male best friends growing up in Inglewood, California and their journeys throughout dating.
Reports read that The Wood” original creators Rick Famuyiwa and Justin Hillian will also create the pilot for Showtime. Famuyiwa is sera to direct the pilot and Hillian will write the screenplay. Both men have been confirmed to be executive producers on the project.
