Cousins!
For the last two years social media users, activists, family and friends have been rallying hard seeking justice for the life of 23 year old Elijah McClain !
As of this afternoon a Grand Jury has ruled to indict two police officers, one former officer and two paramedics of wo police officers, one former officer and two paramedics responsible for Elijah’s death.
According to NBC News, all five defendants will be charged with one count each of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide, along with other charges included in the 32-count indictment.
Back in 2019 Elijah was detained and placed in a fatal chokehold by police later identified as a carotid control hold which ultimately restricts blood to a person’s brain and makes them unconscious.
Responding paramedics injected Elijah with ketamine to sedate him as body cam footage showed him twisting on the floor vomiting and saying” I can’t breathe” . Though he was able to be revived he soon went into cardiac arrest. He was declared brain dead and ultimately taken off life support less than a week later.
Reports read that coroner said that the cause of death was due to undetermined causes, however they did not rule out that the chokehold, in addition to the ketamine, may have contributed to his death.
Sources have confirmed that Aurora police banned carotid control holds last year summer of 2020.
“Nothing will bring back my son, but I am thankful that his killers will finally be held accountable,” LaWayne Mosley said in a forwarded statement.
