Cousins!
In efforts of assisting residents that have fallen on hard times financially during the pandemic, the Biden administration had proposed an order that would block landlords from enforcing eviction; unfortunately as of Thursday afternoon the Supreme Court has voted to cancel out the covid related moratorium!
“Congress was on notice that a further extension would almost surely require new legislation, yet it failed to act in the several weeks leading up to the moratorium’s expiration,” reads official court documents obtained by CNN.
“If a federally imposed eviction moratorium is to continue, Congress must specifically authorize it,” the court said.
Due to this major cancellation over 11 million Americans that are currently behind on their rent are at risk of eviction reports NBC News.
“The tragic, consequential and entirely avoidable outcome of this ruling will be millions of people losing their homes this fall and winter, just as the delta variant ravages communities and lives,” says president and CEO of the National Low Income Housing Coalition Diane Yentel.
