Tomorrow marks one year since the tragic murder of Minneapolis resident George Floyd at the hands of local police officials. Though the world has shifted dramatically since his death, numerous elements of society remain painfully obvious at a stand still!
According to NBC News, President Joe Biden is currently working to set in stone a Police Reform Bill.
Reports read that Biden had originally issued a timeline to have the bill passed by legislation before George’s one year anniversary, however it has been indicated that congress is still within the negotiation phase.
Sources have confirmed that Biden has expressed how important it is to him to maintain a relationship with the Floyd family though he hasn’t reached any success within reaching the proposed bill he still wants to offer his presence for the pain they are enduring.
“The president has spoken repeatedly to how meaningful his relationship with the Floyd family is to him,” reads a statement from an official.
“..and on the first anniversary of George Floyd’s passing it is important to him to hear from them about their perspective on this moment in our history and the progress that must be made in order to stop the agonizing trend of people of color being killed at the hands of law enforcement and to rebuild trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.”
In regards to the police reform bill White House Press Secretary Jen Pskai has stated, “In terms of where we will be right before or around Memorial Day, our hope is that we will have a better sense on the path forward and what the opportunity is looking ahead,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said last week, saying the two or so weeks leading up to it are “a lifetime in legislating.”
