Issa Rae Speaks On Ending ‘Insecure’, I’m Definitely Ready To Let It Go”

Cousins!

Two time NAACP Image Award winning actress Issa Rae has come forward to reflect on the fifth and final season of the beloved HBO series ‘Insecure’ while noting that its ending is necessary!

In a recent interview with Sheinelle Jones on Today, Issa speaks on the success of Insecure and how the series was created from a space of wanting to develop a character that the world of television had never experienced before.

Originally deriving from her legendary web series Awkward Black Girl Issa states the birth of Insecure was completely organic.

”I was complaining a lot about like what I wasn’t seeing on TV. And, you know, this was creating a character and a world to be like, if I can do it, and I know mainstream TV can do it,” says Issa.

“And so I was even surprised after the first episode, then I was like, ‘Oh God, I gotta write more and catch up.'”

As for the decision to wrap up Insecure Issa states, “I’m definitely ready to let it go. I knew that I wanted to end it after five seasons. And I feel like I’m really proud of this season that we’re shooting now. It’s so much fun, and it’s made me appreciate the show in a different way.”

The cast and crew are currently on set filming the final episodes of season five as it is expected to debut later on this year.
