A Georgia couple is currently facing felony charges for murder and first degree- cruelty to children following the death of their 5 year old daughter due to reports of starvation!
Burford, Georgia residents Jerrail Maurice Mickens, 31 and Porscha Danielle Mickens ; parents of Kylie L. Mickens had taken their daughter to Georgia Medical Center Braselton on June 7th, where she was noted as weighting only 7 pounds at the time reports, The Daily News.
Sources have confirmed that Kylie was then taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, hospital where officials contacted the Hall County Division of Family and Children Services. Ultimately leading to a four month investigation of the incident including a deeper look into her parents overall background.
Reports read that Kylie was pronounced dead the following day.
A completed autopsy report was forwarded recently that identified Kylie’s cause of death as, “dehydration and malnutrition due to medical neglect.”
It has been indicated that her death was ruled a homicide, reads a direct statement from the sheriff’s office.
The couple’s legal team argue’s that Kylie had suffered from a chromosome disorder called 1p35 deletion syndrome which is described as causing intense intellectual disability, weak muscle tone and issues with swallowing.
Their attorney Corrine Mull states that the young girl had issues keeping weight on from the day she was born due to her alleged illness.
“ This is a medical issue, not a ‘starvation’ issue. Their other two children are perfectly healthy,’ she states.
Thought the entire case is still under investigation both parents are currently within police custody at the Hail County jail without bail, they’ve pleaded not guilty.
