Congratulations are in order, #OrangeIsTheNewBlack Star #DanielleBrooks is set to play gospel music legend #MahaliaJackson within an upcoming Lifetime biopic!

The film is set to depict an in-depth view of Mahalia Jackson’s life and career as she embarked on the journey of becoming one of the most celebrated gospel icons of the 20th century as well as a highly respected civil rights activist.

Robin Roberts Presents : The Mahalia Jackson Story will serve as a first release film of a four part deal with Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

Sources have confirmed that Academy award winner Kenny Leon is set to direct The Mahalia Jackson Story with executive producers Robin Roberts and Linda Beman.

The Lifetime film will be produced by Rock’n Robin Productions alongside Lincoln Square Productions.
