Within a recently debut semi final episode of The Voice Australia , Destiny’s Child songstress #KellyRowland expressed her past feelings of living in Beyoncé’s shadow throughout her career!
While attempting to motivate contestant Christian Sebastian and his worries of being unable to compete with the career of his successful brother Guy Sebastian, Kelly sympathized with him by letting him know she’s lived through his exact feelings; reports the Daily News.
“I know this feeling. Can you imagine what it’s like being in a group with Beyoncé?”
“I would just torture myself in my head,” Kelly continues. “Like, I can’t wear this dress because they’re going to say it’s like B. Or, I can’t have a song like that because it sounds too much like B…They’re gonna compare anyways.”
She goes on to state how uncomfortable she often felt being compared to Beyoncé throughout much of her career.
“There was a whole decade, if I am being completely honest, a decade where it was like the elephant in the room. It was the thing that would constantly be on my shoulder.”
Kelly concludes by letting Christian know that what he is feeling is natural and much like her he has the ability to create the career that he wants for himself.
“This is your opportunity to carve your own path, even with [your big brother] sitting in that chair down there,”
