A total of six #Atlanta officers have recently been charged after viral body cam footage surfaces of them using a stun gun on two Black college students Saturday night!
Multiple videos show #MessiahYoung and #TaniyahPilgrim being violently removed from a vehicle during a protest around 940PM EST, reports NBC news.
Within the video you can hear Pilgrim crying and asking officers what is going on as she tries to understand why they were using such force against them and letting other cars go. She was shortly hit with an electric current of a stun gun.
Atlanta Mayor #KeishaLanceBottoms issued a direct statement Tuesday afternoon sharing her thoughts of the video describing it as “ disturbing on many levels.” She then confirmed that two of the involved officers have since been fired.
Reports read that the names of the six officers consist of: Armond Jones, Mark Gardner, Ivory Streeter, Loonie Hood, Roland Claud and Willie Sauls are all facing serious charges. Official documents from the Fulton County district have indicated that the officers have until Friday to turn themselves in.
It appears that officer Jones is currently facing charges of aggravated assault for dragging Young out of the vehicle and slamming him on the ground; while also facing an additional charge for pointing and/or aiming a gun.
Officer Claud is facing charges of criminal damage for breaking the car windows with his bare hands.
Sauls is being charged with a single count of aggravated assault and criminal damage.
Officer Hood is facing two charges of aggravated assault for the use of a stun gun on the pair and simple battery. Gardens is facing charges for aggravated assault along with Steeter; who is facing a charge for aggravated assault and pointing his gun.
Mayor Bottoms has confirmed that Pilgrim has been released without charges and that she is currently working to have the charges against Young dropped as well.
Both Young and Pilgrim are students at Historically Black College Universities. Young is a student at Moorehouse and Pilgrim attends Spelman.
