A viral video is currently making its rounds on social media as a woman’s white privilege back fired on her for calling the police on a Black male with false reports of violence and harassment—-simply because she was asked to put a leash on her dog!
The incident took place Monday afternoon in the Central Park area of #NewYork between residents #AmyCooper and #ChristianCooper. The video shows Amy screaming erratically and pulling her dog by it’s neck.
She is captured saying “There is an African American man. I am in Central Park. He is recording me and threatening myself and my dog.” She states, “I’m not a racist. I did not mean to harm that man in any way.”
The video currently has over 150,000 plus views on Twitter leaving social media users in literal outrage.
Cooper has since then complained that her entire life is being destroyed since the incident. Reports read that she has been placed on administrative leave from her job from at the investment company of Franklin Templeton.
“I think I was just scared,” she told CNN of her actions. “When you’re alone in the Ramble, you don’t know what’s happening. It’s not excusable, it’s not defensible,” says Cooper to local news outlets. She has since then forwarded he dog over to to Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue organization after social media users spoke out on the manner in which her dog was thrown around in the video.
“I thought it was important to document things.” states Christian upon his idea to record the entire ordeal.
“Unfortunately we live in an era with things like Ahmaud Arbery, where black men are seen as targets,” he says. “This woman thought she could exploit that to her advantage, and I wasn’t having it.”
