#ForTheCulture : Essence Magazine And Freeform Pair Up To Launch Student Loan Payoff Program!

#Cousins ; can we agree that the reality of adulthood hits you a bit harder than usual when student loans are on the table immediately after graduation? As you ultimately are forced to make a decision between chasing your dreams or working a 9-5; student loans have the ability to keep individuals in a deep rooted financial hole for what seems like forever.

It has recently been announced that the good folks of ESSENCE Magazine and the network of Freeform have joined forces to assist students with a new loan forgiveness program of their own.

Earlier this month Grown-ish cast members #ChloeBailey and #DiggySimmons alongside the show’s Executive Story Editor Des Moran and ESSENCE‘s Assistant Fashion Editor Nandi Howard made a special appearance at the Historically Black College of Spelman in Atlanta.
Amidst premiering a early screening of the show’s latest episode, the group also announced the official launch of the “#Grown-ish and broke – Student Loan Payoff” . It has been indicated that the program consists of a contest created by ESSENCE and Freeform to pay off $150K in student loans for three applicable individuals.

According to ESSENCE the rules are as follows : To be considered, interested participants must upload a 60-second video or 300-word essay detailing how paying off their loans would be a dream come true. Award categories include a grand prize up to $75,000; first prize up to $50,000; and second prize up to $25,000. In addition, all winners will receive an amazing trip with a guest to the 2020 ESSENCE Festival of Culture in New Orleans (July 3-5). Applications close on 4/30/20.
