#Cousins ; a Missouri teacher has been placed on administrative leave after assigning a class of full fifth graders the task of setting a price point for slaves to be potentially sold!

The incident derives from a in class social studies assignment sometime last week at Blades Elementary school located in St. Louis Missouri; reports Essence Magazine.

Sources have confirmed that Facebook user Lee Hart called out the school on behalf of her friend after catching wind of the racially insensitive assignment. Hart uploaded a photo of the assignment sheet with a caption that read, “This was supposedly a westward expansion lesson. Some were given food, wood, water and…slaves!!!!!!!!!!!” Hart continues, describing the assignment as being “wrong on so many levels.”

It has been indicated that that the School’s principal Jeremy Booker responded shortly after the incident began to catch major attention. He explains within a public statement that the assignment’s objective was to assist students with gaining a better understanding of goods, services, “market practices and needing goods and obtaining goods and how that influenced early settlement in America.”

Reports read that the unnamed teacher has been placed on administrative leave and has since then came forward apologizing for overlooking the potential sensitivity of the assignment. Principal Booker states that each Teacher and Staff member will be required to attend a “Professional development on cultural bias,” following the incident.
