An Orlando Grandmother is both devastated after receiving unbelievable news of her six a year old granddaughter being arrested while at school for throwing an apparent tantrum!
#FoxNews reports; Kaia Rolle, 6 was was arrested by a resource officer at Lucious and Emma Nixon Academy Charter school in #Orlando , #Florida for acting out. Her grandmother Meralyn Kirkland states her behavior is a due to lack of sleep.
Sources have confirmed that Rolle was initially sent to the principal’s office for kicking a staff employee that forcefully grabbing her by the wrists. That’s when Officer Dennis Turner of the #Orlando Police department handcuffed Rolle and took her to the e Juvenile Assessment Center upon charges of battery. Rolle was fingerprinted and even had her mugshot taken. The school has come forward with claims stating that Rolle was released from custody and sent back to school without being processed in the system.
The law strictly prohibits the arrest of any child under the age of 12 unless an office receives permission from the child’s watch commander. It has been stated that Turner did not receive permission to do so. Kirkland states that she informed the arresting officer that her granddaughter suffers from sleep apnea and that the family is working on getting her help. She states Turner replied “Well, I have sleep apnea, and I don’t behave like that.” Kirkland was confused at the officer’s lack of empathy for a child. “How do you do that to a 6-year-old child and because she kicked somebody? … A literal mug shot of a 6-year-old girl,” she states. “No 6-year-old child should be able to tell somebody that they had handcuffs on them and they were riding in the back of a police car and taken to a juvenile center to be fingerprinted, mug shot.”
Since the incident Turner has been suspended as this case is being investigated.
