Within less than 72hours of the comedian and actor #KevinHart announcing his excitement of hosting the 2019 Academy awards, he decided to step down due to the immediate backlash of distasteful tweets dated back to 2010 that surfaced.
According to #Wired ; by Thursday morning rumors were in heavy circulation of doubts and speculation of Hart’s hosting gig being in major jeopardy. Tweets dated from 2010 show Hart poking fun at the LGBTQ community. Tweets included anti-gay jokes, statements pertaining to Aids and notions of extreme homophobia. Hart took to social media to release a statement which began with an apology explaining that he was much younger then and has since then grown as a person. “ Our world is becoming beyond crazy, and I’m not gonna let the craziness frustrate me … if you don’t believe people change, grow, evolve as they get older, [then] I don’t know what to tell you.”
Sources state Hart then received a call from the academy asking him to forward a public apology or they’ll be forced to select another candidate. Hart took to social media to state : I just got a call from the Academy,” and that call basically said, ‘Kevin, apologize for your tweets of old or we’re going to have to move on and find another host’ … I chose to pass. I passed on the apology.” Hart holds internet trolls responsible for the entire ordeal.
