WNBA star Brittney Griner and her wife Cherelle Griner are ending their marriage after eight years together.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Brittney filed for divorce in Fulton County, Georgia, on July 30, 2026, stating that their marriage is “irretrievably broken.” The filing lists the couple’s separation date as July 24, 2026.
The two first crossed paths while attending Baylor University and later exchanged vows in June 2018. Throughout their relationship, Brittney and Cherelle have publicly supported one another through major life moments, including Brittney’s highly publicized detention and release in Russia in 2022.
Together, the couple shares a two-year-old son, Bash. In her divorce filing, Brittney is reportedly seeking joint legal custody as they move forward with this next chapter.
