As if we weren’t already excited… some of our favorite Hillman College alumni are back!
Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Cree Summer, and Darryl M. Bell are set to reunite for Netflix’s upcoming spinoff continuation of A Different World, bringing the Hillman legacy into today’s world.
According to Deadline, the original cast members will reprise their iconic roles with special appearances throughout the season. The single-camera comedy will feature 10 half-hour episodes and is led by showrunner and executive producer Felicia Pride.
Fans of the original series know the impact of Debbie Allen, who shaped the show as a producer, director, and cast member. She returns as an executive producer and will direct three episodes, including the highly anticipated premiere.
In a joint statement, Felicia Pride and Debbie Allen expressed their excitement and gratitude for longtime fans while teasing special surprises throughout the season. Importantly, they emphasized that the series is a spinoff continuation, not a reboot.
At the center of the story is Deborah Wayne, played by Maleah Joi Moon, the youngest daughter of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert. As she begins her freshman year at her parents’ HBCU alma mater, Deborah navigates campus life, friendships, and self-discovery, all while carving out her own identity under the weight of her family legacy.
Original cast members Cree Summer and Darryl M. Bell return as Freddie Brooks and Ron “Ronaldus” Johnson, respectively. The new generation of Hillman students features:
