Flint’s own Claressa Shields has officially been inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, further cementing her legacy as one of the greatest fighters to ever step in the ring.

The 30-year-old boxing champion shared the news on social media on Saturday, December 20, posting an emotional message reflecting on the milestone.

“Humbled, grateful, and honored to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for Michigan 🥹! I AM A HALL OF FAMER 😭😭😭!” Shields wrote.

Dressed in a burgundy monochromatic Gucci blazer and skirt, Claressa posed alongside fellow inductees and her partner Papoose, celebrating the moment in true champion fashion.

She went on to dedicate the honor to her roots and the people who helped shape her journey:

“This moment isn’t just about me — it’s about every kid who believed in their dreams, every coach and mentor who poured into the poor Black girl with just a dream, and every community that raised me.”

Shields also reflected on the meaning behind her Olympic victories, sharing that her first gold medal was for Michigan and the USA, while her second was for herself and anyone who felt close to giving up when times got tough.

“Rather you believe you can or you believe you can’t — YOU ARE RIGHT,” she added.

Claressa’s induction into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame is yet another reminder of why she’s known as the GWOAT — and why her impact extends far beyond boxing.
