We got a chance to catch up with Kris D. Lofton at this year’s Paley Fest in New York during a special red carpet and screening for the final season of Power Book IV: Force. The actor, who brings Jernard to life on the series, shared his thoughts on what makes his character stand out in the show’s high-stakes world.
🏙️ Staying True to the Streets
According to Kris, Jernard is the only character staying true to the streets of Chicago. While others might blindly follow Tommy, Jernard isn’t afraid to question his motives. “For all they know, he could be an opp,” Kris explains — and if that’s the case, Diamond could be in serious trouble.
Kris emphasized that portraying Jernard authentically is personal for him. As a Chicago native, he wants to ensure that the character’s story feels genuine to the city and its culture. That means Jernard asking questions, challenging situations, and thinking critically — anything less wouldn’t be realistic for someone navigating those streets.
🔍 Loyalty and Street Smarts
Throughout the last three seasons, Tommy and Jernard have often bumped heads; with Jernard scrapping for his brother’s attention and demanding recognition for holding down their drug enterprise of CBI down Diamond served time in prison–oppose to Tommy, naturally creating a seat for himself at their table while also expanding their organization to new heights.
In the fourth and final season, fans will bare witness to all three men continous fight to obtain power while also navigating the technicalities of love, loyalty, family and the code of the streets.
