Ciara Reveals That She Leaked Her 2006 Hit Single ‘Promise’ After A Record Executive Called It The ‘Worst R&B Song’

Even in the early stages of her career, Ciara didn’t allow the pressure of the music industry shake her intuition as an artist!

In an interview with Bustle, Ciara revealed that a record executive at Sony attempted to chop her down a size in regards to her 2006 hit song ‘Promise’ as it was referred to it as the, “worst R&B record.”

“We leaked it at an Atlanta radio station and literally the song took off and was a monster,” Ciara recalled. ”I ended up having my first No. 1 album. And that week was a big week — it was me, Gwen Stefani, Eminem, everyone.”

Ciara also expressed that though her initiation was spot on in that specific instance, there’s been times where she didn’t always get it right in terms of her career. However she says nothing could ever shake her belief in her overall talent.

“There’s been times when maybe it doesn’t work as well as I thought it would,” she said. “But I’ve been pretty consistent in my belief, so I won’t stop believing.”
