Ciara dropped some exclusive tea regarding her debut single ‘Goodies’ as she shared that her hit song was almost given to pop icon Britney Spears!
While appearing in a recently aired episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Ciara opened up about the early 2000s hit song and how it played a major role in amplifying her career.
Ciara revealed that her previous record label tried to snag the song from her. “I learned about this later, but they were trying to give my song to Britney Spears.”
Further in the conversation, Ciara confirmed that Britney wasn’t behind the move. “I know Britney wasn’t the one trying to take my song,” she explained. “Because I love Britney.”
Ciara explained that Britney was already a massive superstar at the time and she was a new artist. However, she felt in her heart that the song belonged to her.
“When I had this record, I knew that it was a very, very special record,” said Ciara back in 2020 on her Apple Music podcast ‘Level Up with Ciara.
“And I worked so hard on this record and this industry can sometimes bring you incredible challenges, hence why I love the power of having my own record label.”
“[I] had this record, but not knowing that behind the scenes, there was a conversation about this song being potentially taken from me and given to an artist like Britney Spears, who was on the same roster as me,” recalled Ciara. “I learned about the story later, but the crazy thing for me is that if I would’ve known about it then, I would have fought tooth and nail.
The early 2000s hit spent seven weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. Ciara solidified the longest-running No. 1 debut single by a female artist in nearly 30 years, reports PEOPLE.
