Cousins! BIG congratulations are in order for Bronny James as he’s officially been drafted into the NBA!
The 19-year-old rookie is set to join his dad LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers, making history as the first-ever father and son to play on the same team at the same time.
According to Yahoo News, Bronny plans to sign a multi-year guaranteed contract with the Lakers which will guarantee his spot with the team once the 2024-2025 season kicks off.
This is excellent news for Bronny seeing how he is a second-round draft pick, which aren’t typically guaranteed contracts. Usually, they spend their time training at Summer league camps as well with their respective team to secure a spot.
Sources state that LeBron’s agent Rich Paul assured that Bronny wouldn’t be signing a two-way contract.
“Everything has been so surreal. Just trying to take it all in by the days,” said Bronny during his first press conference.
“Extremely grateful for everything that JJ [Redick] and Rob [Pelinka] have given to me. I’ve just been extremely excited to get to work.
“I never really had a thought of me going to play with my dad, but that’s always there to take part of. It wasn’t a main focus of mine.”
Bronny went on to express that he is aware of the pressure and scrutiny he will face with playing alongside his superstar father.
“For sure an amplified amount of pressure. I’ve already seen it on social media and stuff on the internet, talking about how I might not deserve an opportunity,” Bronny said.
“But I’ve been dealing with stuff like this my whole life. It’s nothing different. It’s more amplified for sure, but I can get through it.”
