Cousins! DoorDash is apparently standing on business in regard to a recently issued warning to their customer who fails to tip delivery drivers!

A part of DoorDash’s delivery mobile app, a new pop-up screen explains to customers that if they enter a zero tip amount for their order, they will be at risk of having a delayed delivery.

According to reports from CBS News, drivers known as Dashers are allowed full discretion on which orders they choose to accept. In which they’ll be more likely to prioritize an order where a customer has tipped ahead of someone who has not.

“Orders with no tip might take longer to get delivered — are you sure you want to continue? Orders that take longer to be accepted by Dashers tend to result in slower delivery,” reports The Verge.

A spokesperson for DoorDash tells CBS, that the company is currently testing the feature out through analytic data. “ “This reminder screen is something that we’re currently testing to help create the best possible experience for all members of our community.”

The spokesperson notes that DoorDash has noticed a decrease in customers entering zero dollar amounts as a tip since the newly issued warning screen came about.

Dashers are drivers who work as independent contractors who are allowed to “accept or reject offers based on what they view as valuable and rewarding,” the spokesperson said.

“While the vast majority of customers do leave a tip, offers that don’t include a tip can be seen as less desirable — this impacts our entire community, leading to longer wait times for customers, orders sitting longer at merchants, and less value for Dashers.”
