Despite retired NBA all-star Dennis Rodman ‘s efforts to help Brittney Griner out with her current legal troubles in Russia, he has officially confirmed that he is no longer going!

As we previously reported, Rodman had told NBC News reporters over the weekend that he had allegedly received permission to travel to Russia.

“I got permission to go to Russia to help that girl,” Rodman said on Saturday. “I’m trying to go this week.”

In response to the circulation of Rodman’s claims State Department spokesman Ned Price told ABC News that if Rodman were to travel to Russia it would be on his own merit.

“He would not be traveling on behalf of the U.S. government.” He continues, “We believe that anything other than negotiating further through the established channel is likely to complicate and hinder those release efforts.”

On Monday Rodman confirmed that despite his previous claims he doesn’t currently have plans to travel to Russia.
