Cousins!

Move over 50 Cent! A new executive producer is stepping into the television world and he is producing a series about the birth of the Jazz Age!

R&B superstar Usher is taking his talents across television screens as he steps into the leadership position of executive producing. The Grammy award winner has signed on to executive produce “Storyville,” in development from Starlings Television, reports Variety.

Usher will executive produce alongside creators and showrunners Bill Macdonald (“Rome”) and Walt Becker (“Wild Hogs”).

The series will be set in New Orleans and follows the story of five brothel madams “as they fight to control the red light district.” The “U Remind Me” singer says in a statement, “ ‘Storyville’ is an epic tale sparked by the origins of the sound that inspired my career – a story that touches the nerve of social and cultural relevance today.”

Starlings TV President/EP Chris Philip and CEO Karine Martin will executive produce with Usher, Becker, Macdonald, and Marcus Morton. Philip says in a statement, “Usher’s massive global appeal, musical and acting genius will propel this unique and compelling original series into must-see viewing worldwide.”

“His invaluable creative and musical contributions to Storyville fulfill our vision of contrasting the gritty, sometimes brutal sides of New Orleans life with it giving birth to a beautiful, diverse, and defining new artform.”
