-Tamara’Shanay-
We’ve had the pleasure of Kicking it One on One with emerging artist and head nurse Mirabelle Fobi!
Facing one of the most unpredictable moments the world has every bared witness to as a collective, Mirabelle tells us how self love and reflection allowed her to fully tap into the art of creating music.
“ My creative process has evolved and grown a lot as I’ve grown into learning about myself and loving myself. When I came into a position of opening up and loving myself, I ultimately surrendered to whatever that is through meditation.”
Mirabelle acknowledges that her childhood of growing up within a religious and musical home is heavily reflected in her adult life.
”I am very spiritual driven. I see music when I meditate and hear songs in my dreams. I wake up from sleeping and write songs. It’s all in my spirit.”
With all the tragic and life altering experiences healthcare workers have endured working tirelessly around the clock for the last two years, Mirabelle addresses the importance of mental health.
” Mental health is HUGE. A lot of people don’t talk about it, we as people tend to keep it to ourselves. There’s a lot of anxiety and depression. There’s also an economic factor to it. The fact that people don’t have enough money to take care of themselves, people are shy to talk about it. People have suicidal thoughts childhood traumas and grief from dealing with loss ones.”

She continues,” It was a painful process for me as a manager to talk to family members that had to say goodbye to their loved ones through the ICU. It was rough and you can just imagine what I was going through.”
”Mental health we should just embrace it. We should talk about it. We should celebrate it and welcome all of the alternative medicines that are out there and not judge anyone because of their situation.”
She urges frontline workers and anyone who just needs a break from their daily routines to take a trip someone where different and just live in the moment of finding themselves. Whether that’s through prayer, music, writing, or meditation.
”Do things that put your soul at ease”
Recognizing music as both her internal and external outlet, Mirabelle was able to successfully create a hit single that also serves as a feel good record that people around the world can vibe to.
”I’m really grateful and thankful for the song’s success because it’s so special to me. It’s a saying that I used a lot as a kid. ‘Zigiyaga’ means ‘Live Now’ , ‘Give Now’ , ‘Love Now” and ‘Be Free Now’. It’s all about being in the present and enjoying your life to the fullest because you never know what tomorrow or even the next minute will be like, for life is real short. I just wanted to create something that made myself as well as people that listen to it feel amazing when they hear it at any moment”
As for the rest of the year, Mirabelle is working on new music, lots of songwriting and is open to collaborations. She tells us that she isn’t interested in shelling her music into one specific category and wants to continuously explore.
”I love all types of music so I honestly want to create sounds and songs of all the world has to offer”
