Cousins!

THE AUDACITY. It has been 2 years since the wrongful death of Breonna Taylor and as our hearts are still mourning!

NPR reports that Myles Cosgrove, the officer who shot Taylor, is fighting to get his job back as we speak. The former officer and his attorney began to appeal his case before the Louisville Metro Police Merit Board earlier this month. The board, which is held by 7 members of civilians and officers, will later determine whether his termination was reasonable.

If you are not up to date with the March 2020 incident, Myles and other officers were carrying out a search warrant on the night of March 13th, 2020, waking Taylor and her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker.

Walker fired one bullet at the officers from a gun that he owned legally. Walker said later he thought the officers were intruders. The officers returned 32 shots, with Cosgrove firing half of those. Two of the bullets struck Breonna and killed her. Myles was terminated in January for failing to properly identify a threat when he fired into the apartment.

In a recent court hearing, attorneys for Louisville Metro and Cosgrove agreed beforehand that he violated LMPD policy, by not activating his body camera during the raid in Taylor’s apartment. The attorney who is representing the police department, assistant county attorney Brendan Daugherty says that Cosgrove’s behavior on the night of Taylor’s death, violated the department’s use of force policy.

This will be interesting to see if they give him his job back.

Cousins, what are your thoughts on Officer Myles Cosgrove appealing his termination?
