Cousins!
There’s a new television making some major moves in the industry up as it effortlessly provides a fresh and modern day prospective of the journey traveled for Black men throughout relationships, friendships, fatherhood, business and more!
Originally created by actor and series star Deji LaRay and executive produced by co star Thomas Q. Jones and Cedric The Entertainer , also staring Derrex Brady and Philip Smithey, JohnsonOnBounce tells the story of four childhood best friends from Atlanta that share the same last name but fairly different paths in life.
The series is different from anything we’ve personally ever witnessed as it challenges the often circulated stereotypes portrayed upon Black men from various complexities including mental health, insecurities, politics and more.
“It came down to not seeing us on television in the way that I know us,” said LaRay to @ebonymagazine . “Black women have really taken control of their narrative. You have a bunch of great shows that showcase the Black woman experience and the synergy between friends; I didn’t think that there was anything like that for us [Black men] to be proud of.”
Debuting only a month ago Johnson’s has been able to pull in over 2 million viewers for their series premier.
“I think people are just ready for something different, something new, something honest.”
“It’s not a biased show. The Black women on this show use their voices and come from a grounded place. A lot of these conversations that we’re having are conversations that people are having throughout social media. We’re finally bringing those conversations from the social media comment sections to TV when it comes to Black men and Black women.”
Cousins be sure to tune into Johnson’s on Bounce every Sunday at 8PM EST !
