Multitalented mogul and creative Tyler Perry is set to receive a Humanitarian award at this years Oscars ceremony for his extensive efforts and acts of service during the pandemic!

The announcement was made January 14th by The Academy for Motion Picture Arts and Sciences confirming that Perry will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award this year, reports People.

It has been indicated that both Perry and the Motion Picture & Television Fund ( MPTF) will receive the award this year. This will be the very first time in the academy’s history that the award will have more than one recipient.

“There has been such widespread generosity in our industry that limiting the Hersholt Humanitarian Award to one recipient, this year in particular, was impossible. So, we are breaking with tradition and giving two awards to honor that spirit,” says Academy president David Rubin within a forwarded statement.

“Tyler’s cultural influence extends far beyond his work as a filmmaker,” Rubin notes. “He has quietly and steadily focused on humanitarian and social justice causes from the beginning of his career, caring for people who are most often ignored.

For years Tyler has discreetly extended a helping hand to those in need, especially within the state of Georgia. From donating 5,000 Thanksgiving meals to paying thousands of dollars in hospital bills, paying off numerous families layaway balances at a local Walmart, flipping the supermarket bill for hundreds of families and the list goes on and on.

We are happy to see Tyler receive the recognition he rightfully deserves.
