Sha-Asia Washington, 26 exhibited perfect health following her final stages of pregnancy, however her life came to an unexpected ending upon her stay at Woodhull hospital in #Brooklyn last week, reports ABC News.
Reports read that Washington was given an epidural and died during an emergency c-section.
“She’s 26 years old. How does your heart stop at 26? How? She was healthy – there was nothing wrong with her, her whole pregnancy,” states Washington’s best friend Jazmin Lopez.
Though Washington was able to successfully give birth to a healthy baby girl named Khloe, her family is deeply saddened by her tragic death.
“NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull is committed to the maternal health and welfare of our patients. We are saddened by this death and our condolences go out to the family of the deceased. The City’s public health system recognizes the disproportionate increased burden that black and brown patients face during childbirth. We are devoted to understanding the causes, and are committed to addressing this unacceptable disparity,” reads an official statement from Woodhull hospital.
A GoFundMe page has been established successfully raising over $45,000 in efforts of supporting Washington’s partner and daughter.
