#NME reports that the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced the record reaching diamond status Tuesday, Oct. 22nd . Not only is this a major accomplishment for Lil Nas but also a historic one. Billboard reported that Old Town Road has been declared the fastest record to ever reach diamond status in the history of music. Also becoming the first record to reach this status within 2019 so far.
Lil Nas took took to #Twitter to announce the good news early this morning within celebration of his achievement “OLD TOWN ROAD IS OFFICIALLY DIAMOND!! 💎💎💎💎💎”
We are extremely proud and excited for him; Old Town Road had a rocky history once it first hit mainstream media. The Billboard charts attempted to box him in and wouldn’t allow for the record to be identified as a form of country music and instead declared it as a hip hop based record. Now the world can declare the song a diamond within its own right!
