Cousins! A deadly food poisoning warning has been issued to the public advising everyone to stand clear of all deli meats and cheese. The food has been identified as being linked to 16 Listeria outbreaks!
According to direct reports from the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention a total of 13 people have been hospitalized since last week’s detection. Sadly, a person has died due to the outbreak and another woman experienced a pregnancy loss.
It has been indicated that the food-borne bacterial infection has impacted seven residents in New York, three in Maryland, two in Illinois, two in Massachusetts, one in California, and one in New Jersey. The age ranges is listed between 38 and 92 years old.
The very first detection is said to have derived from a Brooklyn deli in New York two months ago in September.
The public health agency warns that those most at risk of infection are: pregnant people, the elderly, and individuals with weak immune systems. It has been advised that anyone that is considered high risk should not eat deli meat or cheese unless it is hot or has a 165 degree Fahrenheit internal temperature.
“To avoid illness, toss out deli meat and cheese and clean your refrigerator and any containers that previously stored the products with a soap and hot water cleaning solution, says the public health agency. Contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following symptoms of listeria after eating deli meat or cheese: diarrhea, gastrointestinal issues, headache, stiff neck, fever, muscle aches, fatigue, disorientation, and loss of balance”
“The true number of sick people in this outbreak is likely higher than the number reported, and the outbreak may not be limited to the states with known illnesses,” reads a statement from the CDC team.
