Social media influencers are currently shaking the table after Instagram pulled the plug on all filters for residents in the state of Texas!

According to Khou News , owners of Facebook and Instagram, Meta turned off ‘augmented reality filters’ on each platform.

The change derives from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton recently filed lawsuit accusing the platform of misusing facial recognition technology. It has been stated that a class action lawsuit was settled in the state of Illinois restricting facial recognition filters.

“Some of us are OK with our faces being mapped… our data being shared that way,” said an influencer. “Give us an option to opt-in to that.”

Since the drastic change, Meta confirms it plans to give people the option to opt-in they’ve also released released an official statement.

“We are taking this step to prevent meritless and distracting litigation under laws in these two states based on a mischaracterization of how the features work.”

Meta has not stated when the opt-in feature will be available exactly.
